About

The Friends of Hilbre was founded in 2001 and we currently have about 150 members. Our volunteers work, with the guidance of the Ranger Service or the appropriate officer of the Local Authority, to help maintain our beautiful island. Although active participation in projects is welcomed, it is recognized that some members are unable to commit to voluntary work, but are appreciated for the loyalty and support they continue to give The Friends of Hilbre and the Hilbre Islands Local Nature Reserve.

Events

The Friends of Hilbre have now organized the work schedule for their members to take part in on Hilbre Island. Volunteers must be members of The Friends of Hilbre and over 18 years to help with events and practical maintenance tasks.

Between March and December 2012 the Friends organized: 8 Seal Watching Days, 8 Telegraph Station Open Day, 8 Task Days and 10 mid-week Task Days. In addition volunteers will staff the Rangers Mobile Information Unit at Dee Lane slip-way and attend other local events for one day a month. We warmly welcome new volunteers in all aspects of our work.
